Sizing

The most important aspect of selecting suitable dog gear is comfort and closely related to comfort is size.

Flotation Vest

The Dog Armor Flotation Vest is a flotation device for dogs that combines performance, comfort, and safety. The Flotation Vest allows water (sports) loving dog owners to focus on fun instead of being worried about their dogs’ safety.

It is essential that you choose a properly fitting Flotation Vest for your dog to ensure it has sufficient floating capacity, it is safe and provides sufficient wearing comfort. Jackets that are too big will cause the Flotation Vest to push up, and your dog may easily slip out of the vest. Vests that are too small will not be able to keep your dog’s body afloat and may restrict movement and breathing.

You can easily determine the correct size Flotation Vest by measuring your dog and pick from the Dog Armor broad selection of sizes. You can also try-out our Flotation Vest for your dog at the nearest pet shop to make sure it fits.

  1. Wrap the right flap under the dog’s torso until it fits snuggly and fix the right flap with the velcro closing.

Measuring your dog

Size measurement instructions Flotation Vest

Below 4-step measuring process helps determining the desired Flotation Vest size.

Using a flexible measuring tape measure:

  1. Back length: is measured from the withers to the base of the tail while the dog stands in a normal position. The withers is the point between the shoulder blades of your dog. It’s usually the tallest point of the body, and in dogs it is the standard place to measure the animal’s height. When measuring the back length, be very wary as depending on the dog’s position, the dimensions may vary by several centimeters.
  1. Neckline: measurement is taken from the widest part of the dog’s neck, i.e. from the base of the neck.
  1. Chest: measurement is taken from the widest part of the dog’s chest behind the forelegs. In order for the Flotation Vest to have sufficient room for movement, the chest measurement of the Flotation Vest must be several cm larger. Breeds with long and thick fur need more room for the chest than dogs with short fur.
  1. Compare your measurements with the dimensions in the sizing chart and choose the Flotation Vest size that corresponds best with your findings If the measurement does not respond to a particular Flotation Vest size, round up to the next larger size or round down to the next smaller size while considering the following tips:

Round down: For dogs that carry their tail up, except if your dog is muscular and/or chunky like a Bull Terrier. For small boned or slim dogs.

Round up: For dogs that carry their tail down, except if your dog is small boned and/or slim like an Italian Greyhound. For large muscular or chunky dogs.

Knockdown Bed

All 5 Knockdown Bed sizes

Comfort is the most important aspect in selecting the suitable Knockdown Bed. You want to be sure your dog can sleep and move comfortably in his bed. If the dog is uncomfortable he will not use the bed regularly and in case of the Knockdown Bed the anti-insect property will not be used to its greatest extent. Dogs like to nest in something soft, just like people do. Dog Armor dog beds are soft and flexible enough to let your dog “carve out” his own snuggle space in the polyester cover material stuffed with top quality virgin polystyrene beans, while the bed molds around your dog for a comfortable, secure fit. This allows optimum contact between the dog and the anti-insect fabric.

That’s exactly why the beanbag style Knockdown Beds are made super comfortable for your dog to lie down on while the polystyrene beads give the beds their relaxing shifty, squishy resilience.

Closely related to comfort is dog bed size. It’s important to choose the right size bed. Especially beds that are too small tend to be less comfortable. In addition, parts of the dog will stick out of the bed reducing the anti-insect contact area.

There are several things to take into consideration when choosing the Knockdown Bed size, such as how your dog likes to sleep; if he likes to sleep curled or if he likes to stretch out. If your dog is still growing you need to determine the estimated size when fully grown. In any case, make sure the bed is large enough to fit your dog while he’s outstretched. As a general rule, the bigger bed, the better. There are two simple ways to determine the proper Knockdown Bed size:

1) In case your dog is fully grown, measure your dog from nose to onset of the tail as he is lying down, then add 12 cm (5 inches) if he likes to sleep stretched out. Pick the next biggest size pet bed for that measurement.

2) Chose the right size bed from the Dog Armor breed and size guidelines. Please note that not all breeds in the world are listed. If your breed is not listed in the table, you may want to do an internet search on your breed’s size or contact the breeder. Also note that the below guidelines are approximations. When in doubt it is always better to go with the next size up.

Knockdown Coat

You can easily determine the correct size Knockdown coat by measuring your dog and pick from the Dog Armor broad selection of sizes. You can also try-out our Knockdown coats for your dog at the nearest pet shop to make sure they fit. 2. Pull the front flap between the front legsFitting-instructions-Knockdon-coat-1b sm

3. Wrap the front flap under the torso around the dogs’ chest by lifting both ends of the flap on either side of the dog’s back.

4. Secure the straps at both ends of the flap with the fasteners on top of your dog’s back. Adjust the straps to improve the fit and pull the ‘surplus’ strap material under the elastic sleeve.

5. Separate leg straps are supplied with the Knockdown dog coat. The leg straps will make sure that the dog coat remains in place. Hook the rear leg straps into the loops that are sewn into the inside of the coat. Gently pull the leg strap over one of the rear legs in such a
way that the leg is caught between the coat and the strap. Do the same with the other leg strap. Adjust the leg straps with the slider until there is room for the width of two fingers between the leg straps and the dog’s thigh. This is to allow freedom of movement.

5. Check our breed charts below. If you find your calculated dog coat size is much larger or smaller than the recommended sizes in the breed chart you may want to double-check the measurements. If the measurements are confirmed and the outcome does not fall into the “average” dog coat sizes for your breed you may want to ask yourself if your dog is smaller or larger than the typical dog of his breed. Dogs are like people and they come in different sizes and shapes. The coat sizes in the breed chart are based on the standard size of the breeds.

Swaddle Wrap Pressure Technology

Swaddle Wrap Pressure Technology

Swaddle Wrap

The Swaddle Wrap is a pressure wrap that makes use of 4-way stretch elastic fabric and velcro to create a tight-fitting garment that is worn during stressful events. The fabric is breathable and the low thermo-conductivity of the fabric keeps your dog cool in summer and warm in winter.

How does a Swaddle Wrap work?

When fitted properly, the Swaddle Wrap creates distributed pressure over the chest, sides, and back of the body that has a calming effect. Being wrapped gives the dog a feeling of safety and comfort and restores the dogs’ self-assurance. After a short training period (see instructions below under the “IMPORTANT” header) your dog will feel this relaxed state also during stressful situations and be able to handle them much easier.

IMPORTANT

Make sure that you introduce the Swaddle Wrap when your dog is in a calm state because the dog needs to associate the Swaddle Wrap with a relaxed mood. This means that you must bring him to that calm state first and then introduce the Swaddle Wrap leaving it on for 20 to 30 minutes. Repeat this process a few times over a couple of days before using it for an actual stressful event. If you introduce the Swaddle Wrap when your dog is already at an elevated anxiety level, then his mental state will overrule the calming effect of the Swaddle Wrap.
